00:01:32  ///  WHAT I DO

EDITING

I edit social ads, organic video, corporate video, commercials, and sizzle reels. Cut from your footage or from a shoot we run together.

First cut in five business days. Two revision rounds included. Capacity: three finished videos a week.

MOTION GRAPHICS

I build titles, lower thirds, animated type, logo stings, product callouts, and captions. They are made in the same pass as the edit, so the type moves the way the footage does. Quoted with the edit or on their own.

SIZZLE REELS + CHANNEL PACKAGING

Highlight cuts that sell a show, a channel, or a talent.

CINEMATOGRAPHY / SHOOT DAYS

I shoot with my own full camera package. Lighting is rented per project and billed at cost. Shoot days start at $1,800 with the camera package included. Half days available. Based in Philadelphia and the SF Bay Area.

PRODUCING

Casting, locations, schedules, crew. The unglamorous work that makes the shoot day boring, which is the goal.

00:02:15  ///  SET CHANGE

SET CHANGE.

Sun Basket, "Food Makes Me Dance." Three social campaigns and a TV spot. Produced, shot, directed.

IN-HOUSE PRODUCTION, MADE ON STAFF AT SUN BASKET

A couple sits down to eat. The kitchen pulls away, the light shifts, and the room becomes a party. Then it all snaps back. This is the machinery that got it there.

BRIEF

THE BRIEF

The brief asked for social and TV from one shoot; I owned it from paper to delivery.

DELIVERABLE /// CONCEPT ONE-PAGER

PRE-PRO

TREATMENT & SHOT LIST

Every setup either sold the normal kitchen or sold the reveal; nothing else made the shot list.

DELIVERABLE /// BOARDS, LOOKBOOK, SHOT LIST

PRE-PRO

LOCATION & SET

I planned the build around the pull: which walls moved, which stayed, where the rig hid.

DELIVERABLE /// SCOUT PHOTOS, SET BUILD

PRE-PRO

CASTING

I cast a couple who could eat, react, and dance without mugging; releases were locked before the shoot.

DELIVERABLE /// CASTING GRID, RELEASES

PRE-PRO

ART DIRECTION & MAKEUP

I sourced the art direction and makeup myself; the whole reveal depended on both landing on schedule.

DELIVERABLE /// ART REFS, MAKEUP TESTS, SET DRESSING

OPS

CREW, KIT & CALL SHEET

I wrote the call sheet in set states, not scenes; everyone knew which room they were walking into by the hour.

DELIVERABLE /// THE CALL SHEET

OPS

BUDGET & SCHEDULE

I ran a five-figure budget with no agency cushion; every dollar in the set build came out of another line.

DELIVERABLE /// BUDGET TRACKER, REDACTED

PRODUCTION

THE SHOOT

I directed and operated; there is no post fix for a wall that does not move, so the day was built around the pull.

DELIVERABLE /// BTS STILLS

POST

THREE CAMPAIGNS, ONE SHOOT

One shoot produced three social campaigns and a broadcast TV spot; same cast, same crew, same set, same budget.

Eight years on both sides of the camera. Staff at Sun Basket, June Oven, and Weber. Freelance for the rest.

00:03:28  ///  HOW I WORK

How I work.

Matt Chavez on set, operating a cinema camera rig

Eight years, social ads through TV spots. Corporate, organic, commercial, sizzle reels. Range means real budgets and real formats.

I ran the video function at two venture-backed brands, Sun Basket and June Oven. I operate without hand-holding.

  • I read every brief myself. You'll hear back the same day, almost always.
  • First cut in five business days.
  • Two revision rounds included.
  • Three finished videos a week. More when the project calls for it.
  • I hit the date.

I own my equipment. Full camera package. A shoot day does not turn into a surprise rental invoice.

After eight years of food brands, I still plate my own dinner like it's about to be shot.
